"The Life
of Jacob" Personal Study Workbook
Introduction to the Study
The present age in which we live is a time of ever
increasing immorality and sinfulness. What only a
few years ago was deemed inappropriate by our
society is now considered commonplace.
In order to encourage, strengthen and build up our young
people today, we have decided that a study in The
Life of Jacob would be extremely beneficial.
The Life of Jacob captures the life and struggles of
EVERY believer and at the same time provides a solid
foundation in The Promises, provides the
underpinnings of Jewish History and also
gives a good introduction to Bible Prophecy.
Embedded in his life is the Joseph narrative, which
provides us with many of the same lessons and themes
that we find in the Life of Jacob. More is recorded
of the life and struggles of Jacob than of any of
the patriarchs.
In an effort to make this study as applicable as possible
to our lives today, we have attempted to focus our
thoughts on the very personal life of Jacob and his
family. Our aim is to have the student not simply
read about a man that lived long ago, but to gain a
more intimate feeling of the type of person he was,
what he felt and what he endured.
While the Life of Jacob is filled with many spiritual and
life applicable lessons, we have decided to focus on
a few key themes that we feel are important for
young people today. These themes are:
-
Choices and Consequences
-
Types
-
Prophecy
Our guest speaker this year will be Brother Dev Ramcharan.
During our evening programs, Bro Dev plans to use
the story of the Life of Jacob in order to show
that:
“God
preserved his truth in a man who struggled to
believe God would take care of him and in a
fractured and dysfunctional family full of trouble
and problems. The intention is to encourage kids in
less than ideal circumstances to see that God values
them, and loves them, and wants to preserve his
truth in them.”
